The 8 Biggest Body Language Mistakes
The 8 Biggest Body Language Mistakes You can tell a lot about a person from the way they hold themselves and body language can give away a lot about what you are thinking or feeling. In professional situations such as job interviews and client meetings, its important for you to present yourself in the most positive way possible and you want to come across as confident and approachable. In order to achieve this, pay attention to the body language that you use, as there a lot of common mistakes that people make that can result in you coming across as uninterested, nervous or bored. Here are some of the most common body language errors to watch out for. 1) Avoiding eye contact You want to appear confident and self assured so try to maintain eye contact throughout conversations. 2) Bad posture Slouching can give off the impression of disinterest, so sit up straight and give your interviewer your full attention. 3) Fidgeting Fidgeting or fiddling is often a nervous reflex, however it can make you appear uncomfortable or be interpreted as boredom. 4) A weak handshake A weak handshake can indicate a lack of confidence, so try to greet people with a firm and assertive hand shake. 5) Checking the time This will give the impression of boredom and that you would rather be somewhere else. If someone has taken the time out of their day to meet you, respect that and do the same for them. 6) Frowning You may not necessarily mean to frown, however it will communicate that you are unhappy in the situation. 7) Crossing your arms Crossing your arms can appear defensive or stand-offish, so keep your body language open and welcoming. 8) Invading personal space Its good to appear interested in the other person, but try not to get too close as it could make them feel uncomfortable. Resume Writing For a Machinist Is Different From All Other Types of Resumes
Resume Writing For a Machinist Is Different From All Other Types of ResumesMachinist resumes are very different from all other types of resumes. There are several reasons why resume writing for a machinist is different and requires special attention to detail. The first reason why it is different is because the job description and job duties are very specific. No other job description of the job duties can be applied to a machinist job. The job duties alone are what define the job. This job will be very hands on and require an extremely dedicated individual to do the job. Therefore, the resume must address this in the best way possible. There are a number of different jobs that can be performed by a machinist. Some jobs will involve the use of machinery, while others will require that the machinist be physically present. All machinists are expected to be capable of doing the work, which is an exacting job that can only be accomplished by using specific tools and machinery. It should al so be noted that the work performed in the various machinist jobs is always controlled and monitored by one person. This type of control is only meant to be used by one person and any other type of employment can be done by several people simultaneously.A proper reason for hiring a person that has a background in this field of work is that they are not only a very knowledgeable worker but they also possess the necessary traits to function well in this kind of a job. This is important because many employers require a certain level of expertise in order to adequately supervise the machinist. If an individual with no experience works with a machine and does not know what they are doing, there is a very good chance that their actions will cause injury to the machine or the worker. They could put themselves in danger. This is not just a possibility in the workplace; it could happen at home or anywhere else an individual may be exposed to dangerous situations. The person who is looking for a job with this company has likely worked as a machinist in this particular job before. This is because the organization of the work forces is typically a long term business. This is due to the fact that the organization can not afford to keep changing a large number of workers from one position to another. Recruiters and management want to hire people who are versatile and able to work in different situations.Another reason why a person looking for a job with this organization should have a background in this industry is because the skills needed to perform these jobs are common. The individuals that have been working in this industry for a long time already have the skills that are required to perform this job. They already have the tools and machinery that is needed to operate the machinery. For example, the individual who is writing the resume can not only be a mechanical genius, but he or she must be able to describe how the machine works. There is only so much that an individ ual can put into a resume and then expect it to stand out in a resume writing competition. The specific job duties that the employer expects are also found on the job requirements page on the website. The responsibilities of the job will differ between one employer to the next. The duties are specific enough to help potential applicants to gauge what they need to be able to do for their job.Resume writing for a machinist is unique and requires a great deal of skill. There are a number of reasons why this is the case, but with the work that the individual puts into the resume writing he or she will be in good standing in the eyes of the employer.

Do You Have What it Takes For a Career in Journalism
Do You Have What it Takes For a Career in Journalism Image Source: http://www.netpublic.fr/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/info.jpgThe press serves a basic yet tremendously distinguished function in society. It is the roof over the pillars of democracy. These pillars â" justice, equality, freedom, and representation must be safeguarded in order to protect the interests of those they serve- the people at large.Journalists make up this collection that safeguards the spirit of these ideals. When you choose journalism as a career, you are taking a step to become a privileged gatekeeper of information, filtering what is true from lies that can dirty the water of truth. The job of a journalist can be very thrilling. No matter what field you are assigned to write about, there will be opportunities to meet people and try things you havenât before; your life will never be boring. All said and done, this is not for everyone.People SkillsevalevalNewsgathering happens on many different levels. Having a nose for the news is helpful but you must also b e able to approach people for information that will take you a long way. A hunch will only get you as far as the doorstep of someone you suspect is part of the story but creating and cultivating a source is an art in and of itself.Have a VoiceThat being said, journalism isnât solely about chasing down a lead before it goes cold or going undercover as part of a thrilling investigative piece. Success first lies in figuring out where you believe you will make the most impact. Aspirants will need to establish a style and find a specialization that best speaks to your interests. There are broadcast journalists whose voice we always hear but the terse voice of a political commentator in print or the snarky voice of a fashion critic online can be just as significant.Image Source: Wikimedia.orgAre You a Wordsmith? You may roll your eyes at the cliché, âthe pen is mightier than the swordâ but the saying rings true even today as it did with the advent of the printing press. Like a blacks mith that crafts the perfect weapon, so too can a wordsmith craft the perfect piece of reporting, one that cuts right down to the facts. You must have a love for words and crafting airtight arguments that leave a reader beyond any point of doubt.Journalism the CraftThe underlying skills required of every journalist are the big three- reporting, writing, and editing.Journalism courses will help you build a strong foundation in these areas thereby giving you the strong footing upon which you can build a solid career.Yes, you must love to write and you must be willing and able to write about anything. Journalists are tasked with reporting clearly what they learn from a multitude of sources, some verifiable and others slightly or completely dubious. Being able to present apparently meaningless facts without being deceitful and doing so succinctly is the mark of a true blue journalist.evalA love for writing and your ability to report on your findings are two of the three skills for a str ong foundation But what will set you apart from your peers is an editorial sensibility. An ability to go beyond the reporting and find patterns that lead to a bigger picture is how one gets the scoop so to speak.evalTransformational Skills of JournalismTransformational skills such as product development and knowing how to market the news and who to market it to via new and interesting available media are also valuable to potential employers.News agencies are still learning how to become part of the online media in a way that ensures their longevity in the market. There has been a rise in data journalism â" a field that focuses on finding the story amongst the vast informational flow of data that is available. You donât have to be Tintin to find the truth. A large number of coders and web developers have gravitated to newsrooms because their programming skills can gather and combine information from different data streams to bring a whole new meaning to newsgathering.IntegrityevalP erhaps the most important tenet of the fourth estate is Integrity with a capital âIâ. This is because the role of a journalist is an extremely important one, whether you are a political reporter, law reviewer or on the fashion beat.A journalist bears the privilege as well as the burden of being a conduit of history. They shape the conversation around important events and document the ebb and flow of culture. This they must do with accuracy and fairness since much of what they contribute to the public sphere ends up becoming what the public holds as the truth. Why a Degree? What enshrines news media is a tacit promise between institutions and the public. While it may be true that anyone can publish a piece of work online, a degree in journalism is what will give you a competitive and unbeatable edge. Seamedu journalism courses are among the best journalism courses in India. They will help you hone in your writing skills, guide you through the intricacies of ethical questions, unders tand the protections afforded to journalists by virtue of the station you represent, and finally help you perfect the tradecraft of news gathering and dissemination.

Recruiters and Headhunters Revisited Vol I - CareerAlley
Recruiters and Headhunters Revisited Vol I - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Just like you get recruited by recruiters, you need to recruit them as well and have them work for you. This article is the first in the series for helping find Recruiters/Headhunters. So what can I say about headhunters? According to Wikipedia, a headhunter is A recruiter is someone engaging in recruitment, which is the solicitation of individuals to fill jobs or positions within any group, such as a corporation or sports team. Make them part of your team, give them everything they need to help market you and find a job for you. Executive Recruiters are typically recruiters that specialize in high-end job searches usually by retainer (paid up front for the job search, rather than after the individual is hired). Headhunters or recruiters tend to work off of commission once theyve successfully filled a job. Keep in mind that recruiters work for the hiring company (and get paid by them). While they will help you get a job, their first priority is to ensure that their client is happy with the results. Following is a short list of some well known recruiters. Korn/Ferry A global executive recruiter. They have numerous offices across the US and have offices in quite a few international locations as well. You can register with their site, search their site for current opportunities (and apply) or contact a consultant. The have a wealth of helpful job search information on their site. Russell Reynolds Associates Russell Reynolds is also a global executive recruiter. Unlike Korn/Ferry, you can not search their site directly for current opportunities, but you can find a consultant and send your resume. Spencer Stuart Another global executive recruiter. Similar to Korn/Ferry, you can register on the site as well as send your resume. There does not seem to be an option to search for current opportunities. Business Systems Technology This recruiter specializes in sales and marketing personnel for computer hardware and software. This recruiter offers a few support services (like resume review) as well. The site does not allow direct registration, but you can forward your resume via email (the registration page is under construction). Guru.com This site matches software programmers with companies that are looking for programmers. Both the employer freelancer sections seem to be very well designed. For those individuals who are programmers and would like to become an independent contractor (or already are a contractor), this site seems to be an excellent resource. Hcrnetwork.com Health Care Recruiters International is a recruiter that is dedicated to the health care industry. The site has a section where job seekers can search current openings as well as registering with the site. They have quite a few offices across the US (not sure where the international comes in, I did not see any locations outside of the US). Wallstjobs.com You guessed it, a financial services recruiter. This website looks more like a job search site than a recruiter site (but it does appear to do both). The site provides job search, registration for your resume as well as career services (resumes, interview skills, etc.). There is an ask a recruiter section for questions as well as some articles. Definitely worth a look, likely to be a popular site given the current environment. We are always eager to hear from our readers. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions regarding CareerAlley content. Guest post Do something new for your job hunt, PT II -
Guest post Do something new for your job hunt, PT II - This is Part II of a guest post from Jessica Lewis. Jessica is a job seeker who joined Twitter about a month ago with the intention of using it to help her drive her own career bus. She has been writing a Twitter-for-beginners series on her blog (which you should read!) You can find Jessica on Twitter @copytailor. Read Part I HERE, where Jessica addresses hesitations about joining Twitter. Focus your Twitter usage. I heard that a college football coach recently said that those on Twitter are a bunch of narcissists that want to sit and type stuff about themselves all the time. Twitter sure does lend itself to facilitating narcissists, but using it doesnt automatically make you a narcissist. You are going to enter Twitter as a niche user. Career-focused people have smartly taken Twitter and focused it for their own use. They tweet actual information. They work to be seen as unique voices on Twitter. That means they dont bother with the silly, time-wasting stuff generally associated with Twitter. And as long as you more often than not aim your tweets at advancing your job search and show interest in others, Twitter will actually facilitate your success. And just as you see the value in a niche blog like this one, youll see the value in everyones niche microblog. You can start from scratch. I did. Step 1 is the most difficult: Youre going to start a Twitter account from scratch. This seems daunting because here you are with a pathetic number of followers trying to get the attention of people with thousands and thousands of followers. Trust me, no one will ever view your follower count as pathetic. If you are focusing your tweets, people will see that you are trying to be a valuable contributor to their conversation. Everyone on Twitter started from scratch. You just happen to be doing that right now. No big deal. Heres the bottom line about Twitter: Its here right now, the people you need are on it, and it will help you get things done faster, whether advancing your career, learning information or targeting your job search. Just ignore the hype and perceptions, think of yourself as a unique voice in what you do (and if youre not sure what that voice is, dont worry because youll end up developing one), and get really good at being concise! Ill be happy to help your follower count grow. Just send me a tweet saying you found me on Keppie Careers. Need help getting your job hunt going? Learn more about me and Keppie Careers!
